Family photo season is upon us, and the question that most everyone asks themselves in preparing is “What do we wear?”. Well, it really isn’t too difficult! Here are a few quick tips to ease the stress of choosing your families outfits…
Choose a color scheme: Does your family like bright bold colors? Or do you tend to keep things more neutral? Where do you plan on displaying these pictures in your home? Decide on a common theme and work on bringing together pieces that don’t necessarily match, but blend well together. Lots of stores have collections with coordinating colors so it is even possible to get everyone’s outfits in one place! It also can be easy to start with one outfit that you love, and plan all of the others around it!
Accessorize: Accessories can add a great touch to your photos, however you don’t want them to be a distraction. Keep it minimal to maybe one piece per person, a scarf for mom, a bow in little sisters hair, a chunky bracelet on big sister, and so on. Avoid clothing with characters, words, logos: Again, these things will take away from what should really be the focus of your photos, your family!
Choose comfortable pieces: You want your family to look their best for your photos, and if they feel uncomfortable, they will likely look uncomfortable.
Hopefully this helps to at least get you started on choosing your families outfits! If you are really needing inspiration, sites like Pinterest and Polyvore have lots of great ideas to get you started in your planning.
Im actually going to be on the other side of the camera this coming weekend for our own family photos! With the tips mentioned above in mind, I headed to Old Navy to find us all outfits. I picked up a sweet little tunic from the clearance rack for my little girl and matched the rest of us to this little shirt. I picked up a cute little vest to accessorize my little man and a big bulky scarf for me. My husband isn’t one to wear anymore than he has to so a plain oxford button down shirt was perfect for him. I am so excited for our session and can’t wait to put them on our Christmas cards!
